There are many methods of book binding. The book binding equipment generally depends upon the type of binding to be done. Smaller jobs require less advanced equipment, while larger jobs need more supplies and complex equipment. Before starting a person needs to make sure they have all the bookbinding supplies and equipment they need.

In general a book binding supply with be something that holds the pages of the book together. The different equipment and supplies used will depend on a few factors. The amount of pages will be one of the biggest factors, as some bookbinding methods are best for larger books while others are better for smaller books. Also the amount of use the book will get. Special books or brochures are not expected to last for a long amount of time, where as a book for leisure reading or a text book needs to last through a lot of wear and tear. Lastly cost is often a factor as well. Usually the more complex the bookbinders and method the more expensive the process will be.

Stapling is the simplest method of bookbinding. The book binding equipment used for stapling is a stapler. For book binding the stapler is usually longer with stronger staples than a simple office stapler. Staple binding is used for small jobs, as only about 3 or 4 sheets can be bound at a time. More heavy duty staplers can staple up to 180 sheets. The stapler works more like a book binding machine with extreme power behind it.

Another popular option is spiral book binding. Spiral book binding is similar to the binding on notebooks. It can be metal or plastic. There are different methods of spiral binding. Some loop through the pages, while others loop around the pages. The size of the spiral determines the amount of pages it can hold together. Spiral bindings are usually very durable and can last quite a long time.

Glue binding is something that most people are familiar with. This type of work involves hot glue applied to the ends and binding the pages together. This type of process usually requires special equipment and be quite dangerous if a person is not trained to work with the supplies and equipment. Often the pages are glued together then cover with a spine that is then glued to the binding or part of the book cover.

These are only a few of the many methods of bookbinding. As technology increases and advances more ways are sure to be on the horizon. The bookbinders once used in early time, is now considered treasures. Book binding is something that has been around for ages and is a nice skill to learn about.
